Now via Email!!!!

Tuesday, June 29th, 2004

I can now post these Blog entries via email! It has taken me hours of research to
figure out how to get the Blog program to get the email automatically, but now it
works.

It is still hard to regularly post to this Blog. I am hoping that the ability to do this
through email will make it a bit easier. Opening the Blog entry form via the web page
is a little slow, while using this email system I can just send an email and in a few
hours the server will check the email and post anything it finds there.

Well, I’ve got some chicken burning on the stove…I’m off

No Shakespeare–What the Bleep instead

Saturday, June 26th, 2004

The movie was interesting. There was this thing about photographs of water where the crystaline structure changed relative to the ‘vibes’ given to the container. Looks convincing but I’d love to see how the photos were taken and see someone else having done the experiment.

Shakespeare tonight…

Friday, June 18th, 2004

I got an invitation for tonight to attend the Ashland-based Oregon Shakespeare Festival‘s 2004 production of King Lear. I think I’ll get a “Cliff’s Notes” version of the play to scan before I see it tonight.

Shakespear is so dense in thought-provoking dialogue that I have a hard time following any of the plays…my mind starts down tangents and then remembers I’m watching a play and by then, of course, I have missed some dialogue. All of that tangential stuff is good, I love it, but I would like for once to be able to remember what the play is about, at least generally.

So, I decided to do a Google search on “King Lear” and almost immediately found what appears to be a nice set of notes to help the first-time student or adult reader, “Enjoying ‘King Lear’”

Side note, this is the first time I’ve extensively used links in my blog post. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be and it was actually useful because my commitment to add those links forced me to actually do the searches that lead to the links.

On Edit (After some spelling corrections): I found Barnes & Nobles has a site that provides book notes called SparkNotes. They have free online versions but you have to pay to get a pdf file. The King Lear version cost me $4.95.

It’s been so long…

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

It’s been so long since I last posted that I actually have a lot to say. I’m not going to say it all, but it is nice to have a big backlog of things to so easily get onto the screen.

I am on the board of the West Medford Community Coalition and we just mailed our first newsletter to 5,000 homes. The response has been great. We got a few new members, people called about agency projects that were highlighted in the newsletter, and the comments about the appearance, layout and stories were all glorious.

We had our first Coalition meeting since the distribution of the newsletter last night. One council person (Jon Michaels) and one state senator (Sal Esquival) attended the meeting and they were both very happy with both the newsletter and our level of organization. Sal even distinctly commented on how differenet this meeting was from the last one he had seen a year ago.

Our coalition is gaining respect in the community and with that will come power and with that membership. I think we are headed in a good direction and I am proud to be part of the team.

I’ve been sick for a week. My lungs are still raw and I cough occasionally but otherwise I have energy and mental capacity that has been missing for a week. Back to the fray….

Time for a break

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

I get a break from my over-stressed life. I’m going down to San Francisco. My friends Dan and Caitlin are preparing for a bike ride leaving San Francisco and pedaling their way to Maryland [sp?] on the east coast. That’s a ten week bike ride with stops along the way. They are traveling with a group to support and educate people on a variety of issues from economic to ecology. Apparently this bike ride has been happening every year about this time for many years (different people each year).

I wish them both well. I’m taking them from Medford down to San Francisco and so I’m also going to take four days off and return on Monday. I hope to take in Harbin Hot Springs on my way back. I have been exhausted lately and think I need a break like this, especially since when I come back I’ll be declaring my candidacy for Medford City Council.
