Secure a Linux box

Monday, February 6th, 2006

Good article that directly applies to Linux but is a sort of tutorial for securing any system that’s exposed to the web.

Which makes me think about five years from now when TechRepublic decides to go out of business, change its archiving methods or decides that it will dump this article. A world of links just disappear everyday.

XP i386 install directory

Monday, February 6th, 2006

Thanks to Petri.co.il

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

  1. Highlight the Setup folder.

  2. On the right pane, locate the SourcePath.

  3. Double-click the SourcePath and replace the drive letter in the box to C:\ (if you copied the files to your C:\ drive). Make sure it’s C:\ and not C:\i386.

  4. Close the registry editor.

  5. If the system ever needs files from the i386 folder, it will automatically look in the C:\i386 folder.

Smoozin’

““It’s not what you know or who you know, but who knows you.” Susan RoAne.”

“Darcy Rezac in his book, The Frog and the Prince, wrote the world’s best definition of schmoozing: “Discovering what you can do for someone else.””

Electric Motors

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

I’m looking for the plans for an electric motor I built when in the 5th grade or so. It used nails and armature wire but no magnets. Here are some links that are close.

Well, that one was close…but, hey, I found it! I found it!

Rocks

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

Someone gave me a little treat. They took my ‘precious’ rocks and stacked them on my plant stand.

Thanks to whoever did this! [edit: Shauneene did it!]
