Slander and Libel

Friday, March 24th, 2006

I am starting up a new web site (MedfordSpeaks) and noticed that when a new user account is created the new user is presented with a screen that talks about slander. So, I wondered what slander meant and I found a nice Wikipedia entry about Slander and Libel.

Almost all legal systems, including those of the United States, Scotland, and England and Wales, require in some situations that the subject of the communication prove, in a civil court, that the defendant made the statement with “malice”, meaning either believing it was false or with “reckless disregard” for whether it was false. This is known as “qualified privilege”; a typical example is a complaint of professional misconduct.

A great article on PR roles in the context of the influence of Blogging. The definition of roles are great and something to be studied…as in power analysis.

Web2.0

>>>Web2.0 isn’t just about looking pretty, it’s more of a whole approach to the sites architecture and intercommunication.< <<

>>>Web 2.0 has nothing to do with design, it’s about content producers maintaining control of their content.

For example:

Edgeio.com – when your ads get listed there, you still own the ad – unlike eBay where they own everything from the images you post to your reputation.

Blogs/Aggregators/Memetrackers – You write an article, you still own it – unlike traditional media where you sell your article to a newspaper and they do with it what they please.< <<

Programming insight

I found this to be entertaining and educational. I don’t know a lot of what the guy’s talking about but it did give a nice view of programming languages…in a funny way.

And the same author did this “five questions” I think for interviewing programmers over the phone…

which also gave me some insight into programmers and the job market.
