Very frustrating but here are the steps I take when setting up a new Windows 8 computer

1. Skip the Microsoft Account Creation
   1. At that point in the setup Select “Create new account”
   2. At the bottom select “Sign in otherwise”
2. Go to the desktop
   1. Right click on task bar
   2. Select Properties
   3. Select the Navigation tab
   4. Check “When I sign in .. go to desktop ..”
3. Install Classic Shell
   1. Open IExplorer
   2. Go to classicshell.net Install
   3. Click on the start button
   4. In new window find search box tab/option
      uncheck “search internet” Uninstall unwanted programs Install Firefox
4. Stop Charms from mouse gestures
   1. Start/Control Panel/Mouse/DeviceSettings/disable  Edge Swipes
5. Stop HomeGroup icon from showing
   1. Go To control Panel, Administrative tools, Services. Home-group listener and Home-group Provider. Right click and Stop both services.
   2. Then right click and select properties on each of the Home-Group Services Listener and Provider and select “disabled” from the drop down.
6. Stop pesky pop up help tips
   1. Easiest just to go to the following web site and download reg change

7. Rename ThisPC to Computer
   1. Open ThisPC
   2. Us the up directory arrow to get to the top
   3. Look to the right and see ThisPC
   4. Right click to rename
8. Stop Lock Screen from starting
   1. Open Regedit
      1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization
      2. create NoLockScreen REG_DWORD value and set to 1
   2. Or
      1. To enable down load http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/DisLock.reg
      2. To disable down load http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/EnLock.reg
9. Shrink partition
   1. Right click Computer, select properties, system protection tab, configure button, disable system protection, delete restore points.
   2. Right click Computer, select manage, select disk management, right click partition to shrink.
10. Uninstall unwanted programs
    1. Norton?
    2. Office?
11. Install Firefox
    1. Set https://www.google.com as home page
    2. Install NoScript
    3. Install NoApps?
12. Install NeoRouter
13. Install TightVNC
14. Make sure computer is in Workgroup
15. Set to not shut down when plugged in
16. If not SSD then install and run MyDefrag
17. Image the computer
    1. Prefer to use EaseUs ToDo
