Linux Mint 17 Mate ping network issue solved

Some have said the following is missing in Mint 17
apt-get install libnss-winbind

Add “wins” to /etc/nsswitch.conf
Should look like this notice wins near end of line before dns
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns wins mdns4
